Proposal of Legal Sciences is awarded with funds by British institute

The Institute for Global Innovation of the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, which promotes interdisciplinary research to address the most urgent problems of humanity, awarded with competitive funds a proposal from the Research Coordination of the Faculty of Legal Sciences.

"On December 3, we were notified about the success of our proposal: Pilot research project on access to justice in Ecuador: investigating the experience of women users of courts specialized in violence against women," reported Silvana Tapia , professor at the Faculty of Legal Sciences.

Dr. Tapia added that the proposal was made within the framework of the collaboration between the University of Azuay and the University of Birmingham, and was nominated jointly with Professor Kate Bedford and Dr. Caroline Bradbury-Jones.

Competitive funds are offered by the Institute for Global Innovation for the implementation of pilot projects that can be extended in the future, once the methodology has been tested.

"This project will use an interdisciplinary methodology of a qualitative nature, with ethnographic tools, for the understanding of access to justice from the reality lived by the users, beyond the legal indicators that in traditional research have been almost exclusively concerned with dogmatic analysis of the legal text, "said Silvana Tapia.

For the researcher, with this proposal, the Faculty of Legal Sciences has taken a pioneering step towards the consolidation of a research culture that deals with social responsibility with contemporary socio-legal challenges, while generating links with academic institutions of worldwide prestige.

The awarded funds will cover research costs, travel to the United Kingdom for team members, as well as data processing and publication of results.

The researchers involved in the project are Silvana Tapia Tapia and Sebastián López. It is also expected to link students of the Faculty.
