The work '' History of Cuenca and its region '' was completed

On Friday, January 17 at the Sucre Theater, the last three volumes of a total of twelve books that belong to the collection `` History of Cuenca and its region '' were presented, written by Juan Cordero Íñiguez, first Rector and forger of the University del Azuay, historian and chronicler of Cuenca.

The event began with the intervention of Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA: “These pages express the traditions we have as a people. The archives and testimonies collected give us a true gift for future generations. ”

For the introduction to the tenth volume '' Chronology of Cuenca, 1957-1200 '', it was attended by Dr. María Augusta Vintimilla, who stressed that the compilation of texts is monumental; That is, memorable.

"The work seeks to recreate the historical memory of the city between the vestiges of the past and the realities of the present," he said.

Dr. Benjamín Rosales, a member of the National Academy of Art, presented the eleventh issue: `` Cuenca in the history and historiography of Cuenca. ''

Rosales explained that this book is about historians who have written about Cuenca and archaeological remains studied by the author to write the work.

The twelfth and final volume entitled '' Names, comments and praise of Cuenca, in prose and verse ”, was presented by Patricio Romero, poet and novelist of the city.

The poet stressed that this compendium is a declaration of love for the earth. For him, the poetry written in this book is the world in the hands of a blind child.

After a review of the entire Juan Cordero collection, a video was projected on the author, directed by photographer Felipe Serrano.

Juan Cordero also received a medal as a symbol of the highest institutional decoration for the contributions provided to Cuenca. In addition, he was given the appointment of Director of Life Honor of the National Academy of History.

The event closed with the interpretation of the José María Rodríguez Conservatory youth choir, directed by María Eugenia Arias.
