Week of events for the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art

The Faculty of Design - in conjunction with the Inter-American Center for Crafts and Popular Arts (CIDAP) - held the first edition of the Week of Design for Crafts (ARDIS), an event that was endorsed by the Municipal Council of Crafts - Latin America and the academic endorsement of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art of the University of Azuay and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cuenca.

The event took place from Monday 9 until Sunday 15 in April, with lectures and workshops given by international professionals and professors from the different universities.

Among the attendees stood out the students of the careers of Graphic Design, Design of Objects and Textile Design of the University of Azuay; The latter organized the ethnic fashion catwalk that was held on Friday 13 April, in order to promote design, craftsmanship and tradition.

ARDIS was carried out with the aim of discussing and reflecting on the role of design and craftsmanship in the contemporary world, as well as promoting the development of the region through the improvement of the living conditions of artisans and artisans in the country and America, encouraging that handicrafts, together with their process of creation and production, support the expansion of human capacities, both those who produce them and those who consume them.

Similarly, the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art was co-organizer of the National Meeting of Contemporary Indigenous Art with the theme "Aesthetic and Ancestral Expressions and Strategies in the Urban World", with the endorsement of the Municipal Museum of Modern Art (MMAM).

The meeting took place on 10 and 11 days in April and featured seminars, talks and talks aimed at promoting spaces for reflection and exchange of experiences, creative strategies and aesthetic languages ​​among contemporary Ecuadorian artists of indigenous origin, whose work dialogues with urban tensions. , in favor of maintaining and managing their ancestral identity.

The event brought together renowned Ecuadorian artists and counted with the participation of students and professors from the Graphic Design and Theater of the University of Azuay.

"This event is a look of reflection that makes us look at the origins of indigenous popular culture for new forms of expression in contemporary art," said Genoveva Malo, Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art.
