Strengthening international alliances. Our Rector visits the President of the Russell Group of Universities of the United Kingdom

Seeking to strengthen and expand our international connections in academia, our Rector, Francisco Salgado, visited Professor Chris Day, who holds the titles of Rector of the University of Newcastle and President of the influential Russell Group; which is made up of 24 of the most prestigious educational institutions in the United Kingdom, including illustrious names such as Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

During their meeting, both academic leaders shared a common vision, in which they recognize that people and ideas are the fundamental pillars to face global challenges. They agreed that world-class education can help build resilient communities, promote sustainable development and build a better future for all the inhabitants of the planet and for all the species that make it up.

Likewise, they highlighted that autonomy is crucial for universities to meet their objectives, since they drown in excessively regulatory molds and only flourish in an environment in which they are capable of doing things for themselves. They noted that reciprocity between international academic peers is essential to realizing academic excellence.

This collaboration between prestigious institutions such as those belonging to the Russell Group allows us to enrich knowledge and promote innovation in the academic field, which, in turn, benefits society as a whole.
