"UDA helps you", the program to accompany the university community in times of pandemic

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Universidad del Azuay has launched the “UDA te Ayuda” program to support the entire university community in times of quarantine.

An initiative that joins other projects launched previously by the Academic Vice-Rector's Office and that is adapted to these special circumstances, both for our community and for the world.

"I consider that everything was already there, but due to the pandemic we had to work differently, organize ourselves to provide a better service," explains Martha Cobos, Academic Vice-Rector, adding:

“The Vida Program, which since its inception seeks the well-being of all the members belonging to the university community, specifically added the Recrea initiative, through physical exercise; In addition, the Psychology courses contributed with teachers and students, and we even had the support of former students who organized themselves for psychological attention ”.

In addition to the Academic Vice-Rector's Office, Mi UDA supports with psychological and pedagogical accompaniment, together with the central campus medical clinics and Red Salud UDA, and the student associations through ADEUDA; all generate activities for the university community and external people who may need these supports at this time.

These moments are marked by not being able to leave the house, in many cases caring for children or older adults and having to adapt to a new teaching-learning process.

"In several cases it also involves facing previous illnesses, both physical and psychological, or learning about family, friends or acquaintances who have symptoms of the coronavirus or who have died," adds Cobos.

Although the deadlines for leaving the quarantine are still uncertain, the Academic Vice-Chancellor anticipates that the end of these restrictions does not guarantee the physical health of people, let alone mental health.

"We are aware that when the quarantine begins to be lifted we will come out with many realities, different lifestyles, possibly with the need to use protection, to stay in small groups, to have more physical distance, with duels for human and economic losses, with the feeling of survivors, we are sure that we will have much more to do ”.

For this reason, the Universidad del Azuay knows that these programs will be necessary, that they may have to adapt to the new reality, but that they will always be present.
