Mental health and well-being: a fundamental reflection

On October 10, on the occasion of International Mental Health Day, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) highlights the importance of celebrating mental health as a universal human right that allows one to live a life with dignity, equity, equality and respect. .

For this reason, the University of Azuay, in collaboration with the Pablo Jaramillo Foundation Humanitarian Hospital, has organized the Symposium "Myths and Truths about Mental Health." This event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Health and Wellbeing.

During the symposium, Ximena Albuja, director of the Humanitarian Hospital, shared a few words with the attendees. She stressed the importance of mental health and agreed with PAHO's message, emphasizing that everyone present has a commitment linked to health issues. In addition, she emphasized that through joint work we can advance towards the objective set by the World Health Organization (WHO), which consists of guaranteeing that mental health is recognized as a universal human right.

This event brings together seven expert speakers in various areas related to health and psychology, among other disciplines.

This meeting provides a favorable space for reflection on the problems that concern us all and allows us to promote meetings that benefit our students. Mental health is a fundamental pillar of our well-being, and collaboration on this symposium is an important step towards understanding and action in this vital field.
