30 years of the School of Food Engineering

On November 12, the School of Food Engineering held a solemn session in order to commemorate its thirty years of creation.

The event was attended by Francisco Salgado, Rector of the University of Azuay; Martha Cobos, Academic Vice Chancellor; Jacinto Guillen, Vice Chancellor for Research; Pedro Crespo, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; María Fernanda Rosales, Coordinator of the School of Food Engineering; María Alicia Peña, member of the Academic Board, as well as teachers and students.

During the event, a brief review of the creation of the School in 1989 was narrated, with the objective of providing the region of professionals with the ability to effectively manage food control, being the first Director of the Miguel career Carrion.

"We are what we eat, this phrase not only takes as reference the satisfaction of a biological need, but reveals what we are and what we can be," said the Rector in his speech. 

“The good production of food and the effective treatment given to them is one of the most important objectives of sustainable development. The intervention of these procedures is vital for the development of the country, as is the constant research regarding food, ”he added.

Similarly, Pedro Crespo shared his satisfaction with the results that graduates have had in the professional positions they have acquired over the years:

"I am pleased to know that our former students perform best in national and international institutions."

The mark of learning that the School of Food Engineering has left is evident, since over the years it has constantly redesigned its contents for the benefit of its students.

"The career has been energized, the subjects have also changed and the Maya has evolved, according to the learning needs that have been emerging in these thirty years," Crespo added.

To recognize the effort and thank those who have worked with commitment, the University of Azuay proceeded to make mentions to the teachers through a text, due to their outstanding work during their thirty years of teaching.

The honorees were Miriam Briones, Diana Chalco, Fausto Parra, Miguel Carrión, Cecilia Palacios, Oswaldo Albarracín, Rebeca Webster, Piercósimo Tripaldi and Hugo Sánchez.

“I must pay tribute to my predecessors, who have not allowed the race to stagnate. Precisely its progress is due to the excellent management of the teaching staff when educating, ”said the current Coordinator of the race.

Finally, the Faculty of Science and Technology invited everyone present to the Hernán Malo González Library lobby to close the celebration with a wine of honor.
