Action in defense of rotary boarding students

On September 6 the rectors of the Universidad del Azuay, Universidad de Cuenca and Universidad Católica de Cuenca gave a press conference at the Service House of the Universidad del Azuay to inform about the situation of the students of the rotary internship program and the unconstitutionality lawsuit filed on May 20 by 2019.

The demand - made jointly with the Association of Ecuadorian Faculties of Medical Sciences and Health AFEME - was filed against the 345 ministerial agreement of 2019, published in the Official Register on May 2, for being “an unconstitutional regulation and regressive in rights and discriminatory for the different careers contemplated in the contested agreement ”, in the words of Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA.

The initiative was admitted for processing by the Constitutional Court and the September 3, the Minister of Public Health and the Minister of Labor decided to reform the Interministerial Agreement to establish economic recognition for the assistance activities carried out by the students of the rotating internship program, which In practice, according to Francisco Salgado, it means attending to what is requested in the demand of the universities.

The three institutions of higher education have been working for two years

in joint projects and in topics of common interest, which have allowed several meetings, congresses, joint symposia and a shared bioethics chair.

"Today, once again, showing the results of our joint activity, we ratify ourselves in continuing together in the fulfillment of our academic tasks and in the defense of the rights of the students," the rectors indicated in the press conference.
