We change the year but we must continue to take care of ourselves

The Health and Science program - launched in the wake of the pandemic with professionals from three Cuenca universities, including the UDA - reaches its twentieth edition and continues to inform us in 2021 about the virus that has changed the face of the Earth.

Salud y Ciencia is broadcast every Sunday by Radio Ondas Cañaris, Radio UDA and by Academia Tv; Furthermore, the programs are available on the social networks of each university.

In dialogue with Fray Martínez from the University of Azuay, the doctor pointed out that the objective of the program is also to predict and compare the results of infections with the whole of last year.

The pandemic has spread and everything seems to indicate that we are on the way to a regrowth.

"Always after a holiday there is a peak of infections, which is why an increase in cases is expected for the third and fourth week of January due to the Christmas holiday and the end of the year," says Dr. Martínez.

As for the vaccine, the interviewee assures that it has more benefits than dangers. Although all treatment has side effects, the vaccine is necessary.

Some 25.000 vaccines would arrive in the country on January 18, however, two vaccines are necessary for each person.

The first doses will be directed to personnel fighting the pandemic on the front line, as well as the elderly.

But, beyond the arrival of the vaccine, Dr. Martínez recalled that we must continue to be constantly alert.

"Sometimes we gain confidence, we unprotect ourselves, we lower our guard and the results can be dramatic."
