The UDA hosted the international conference on geographic information

From the 27 to the 29 in September, the XVI Ibero-American Conference on Geographic Information Systems (CONFIBSIG) took place at the University of Azuay, the largest scientific-technological gathering of geographic information in Latin America.

Sponsored by the Ibero-American Society of Geographic Information Systems (SIBSIG), this event is dedicated to delineating the state of the art in terms of theoretical, methodological and application developments corresponding to the advances made from different disciplines that have been found in Science and Geographic Information Technologies a fundamental dimension for their studies.

Omar Delgado, representative of the organizing committee and Executive Director of the IERSE (Institute of Studies of Sectional Regime of Ecuador), said that "to host these conferences you have to make the proposal four years in advance" and two years ago the possibility that the UDA will host this edition.

The inauguration of CONFIBSIG XVI took place in the Auditorium of the University and was attended by Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA; Martha Cobos, Academic Vice-Rector; Francisco Guillen, Vice Chancellor of Investigations; Manuel Fuenzalida, President of the SIBSIG; Gustavo Buzai, researcher at the National University of Lujan; Antonio Moreno, researcher at the Autonomous University of Madrid; Noel Pineda, researcher at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico and Omar Delgado of the UDA.

During the conference 52 presented papers generated in 10 countries, organized into seven central axes: Training and Teaching in Geographic Information Technologies, Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change, Health and Food Safety, Spatial Data Infrastructure, Cartography, Cadastre and Municipal Geographic Information Systems, Management and Territorial Organization, Methods and Analysis with Geographic Information Technologies.

The first lecture was given by the Rector of the UDA and his theme was "Philosophy in the Bing Bang in artificial intelligence".
