Last talk of the Science and Technology conference

On December 9, the Faculty of Science and Technology together with the School of Electronic Engineering held the last talk of the Knowledge and Culture Conference, with the presentation of the topic "Computer Expertise: Behind the Digital Evidence" given by Karina Campos , IT expert qualified by the Council of the Judiciary.

Andrés López, Dean of the Faculty, stressed that these conferences have been held for four years and, regarding the last talk, he mentioned that it is “a very important topic to be able to know how different problems are faced by using computer technologies ”.

Campos began the talk with the fact that in Ecuador, computer crimes have increased since 2017 and described the work of the computer expert.

This professional analyzes everything related to the digital area: documents, emails, messages on social networks, hard drives, among others, to know if they can be evidence in a judicial process.

By reviewing different cases, Campos stressed that there must always be a "chain of custody" so that the evidence cannot be modified and that at the time of the trial it is not invalidated.
