Inauguration of the photography and sketches exhibition “2019 academic trip”

The inauguration of the exhibition of photography and sketches "2019 academic trip", organized by the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art, was held on Tuesday December 10 in the Pumapungo Museum.

The event was attended by Genoveva Malo, Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art; Tamara Landívar, Director of the Pumapungo Museum; Santiago Vanegas, Coordinator of the School of Architecture; Cristian Sotomayor and Marisabel Carrasco members of the Board of the School of Architecture, teachers and students.

The exhibition, held annually by the School of Architecture, collects photographs and sketches obtained by students and teachers during visits to prominent architectural projects in Latin America. This with the aim of learning from architecture through the experience of visiting it.

Genoveva Malo - Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art - extended a warm welcome to the event that, on this occasion, featured a gallery that had Argentina and Uruguay as the main destinations. The images included in the exhibition were the winners of the “2019 academic trip” contest.

"Architecture and photography have a link that is precisely that both are visual practices and complementary spatial experiences and the photographs of 'Academic travel' were personally a cultural experience," said Fernanda Aguirre, a professor at the School of Architecture.

The curatorship of renowned architecture photographer Leonardo Finotti and his wife Michelle Jean de Castro, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who have carried out, among others, research projects on modern architecture in Latin America, were selected for the selection of the photographs.

The winning students in the different project categories were Lizeth Benavidez, Xavier Reinoso, Sofía Palacios, Valeria Carrera, Carla Ulloa, Gabriel Reinoso and Jean Saavedra.

"This is how the tour prepares to transform knowledge from the intangible to tangible, to put on the table everything read so that we are very cautious with each element," said Carla Ulloa, a student at the School of Architecture .

The event culminated with the presentation of the book that brings together all the participating photos.
