Universidad del Azuay welcomes german students as part of the EarthWISE Project

On September 21, Universidad del Azuay welcomed the first group of visiting students participating in the EarthWISE project. The event was organized jointly with Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), Germany, and was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The project presented today is a joint initiative between Universidad del Azuay, Ruhr University Bochum in Germany, and the Volkswagen Foundation. This academic alliance aims to strengthen international scientific cooperation through research and interdisciplinary training in Earth System Sciences (“EarthWISE”).

The event began with remarks from Francisco Salgado, Rector of Universidad del Azuay, who welcomed the Honorary Consul of Germany and the visiting students. During his address, he highlighted the importance of creating research networks that enable knowledge sharing and collaborative work for the benefit of humanity.

José Jara, coordinator of the EarthWISE project, thanked everyone who has contributed to this initiative and highlighted that one of its main objectives is to promote knowledge exchange between students from Germany and Universidad del Azuay. He also welcomed the students and wished them a pleasant stay during their visit.

Pablo Guzmán, Hydrosphere Leader, emphasized the importance of this experience for the students and noted that the project will be a valuable contribution to each of them.

Following the remarks, gifts were presented to the students from Germany as a welcome gesture and hospitality.

Finally, Thomas Klatte, Honorary Consul of Germany, wished the students a productive week and an enriching experience during their stay. He also encouraged them to enjoy the city and expressed his willingness to support future cooperation initiatives.
