The TCP/IP Model
INTRODUCTION TO THE TCPIP MODEL
Although the OSI reference model is universally recognized, the historically and technically open standard of the Internet is the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). This model makes possible communication between two computers, from anywhere in the world, at almost the speed of light. TCP/IP is compatible with any operating system and with any type of hardware, providing a total abstraction of the medium.
