Victims of violence will receive support from students and professors of the University of Azuay

The University of Azuay and the Government of Azuay signed an agreement for the implementation of the free service for legal and psychological support to victims of domestic violence. In Cuenca, those most affected by this problem are women, children and young people. The institutions in charge of security report that of every 10 calls for help to the National Police, six refer to cases of domestic violence.

 

Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, details that with this community service project it is about reaching those who need it most, in vulnerable sectors.

 

Through the Government of Azuay, the Police Intendancy and the Political Headquarters, an attempt will be made to know the cases and reach those who generally do not have the necessary legal support due to different circumstances.

 

He considers that there are people who daily face situations of violence and that in general the victims are women, who maintain living conditions that have to be overcome, for which psychological support will also be required with the help of professionals and students who do their internships.

Salgado points out that violence has increased. With legal support, psychological support and therapies will be coordinated.

 

"By making services available to those most in need, the goal of overcoming poverty is strengthened," he explains. The work will be carried out in the territory in coordination with the Political Tenures and the Community Police Units (UPC), who assist in the first response to acts of violence.

 

Matías Abad, Governor of Azuay, explained that the service seeks to improve the quality of life of citizens by linking the public, private and academic sectors.
