The traditional contest will be on Sunday from the 17: 00. The participation of some 25 comparsas is expected.

As if they were workers, the students of the University of Cuenca and the University of Azuay (UDA) yesterday assembled the elements for the comparsas that will be presented on Sunday in the traditional Masquerade Contest.

The educational centers will participate together with other institutions, families and people who compete every year in the event.

In the first case the theme for this year is "The insatiable machines", said Juan Pacheco, a professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cuenca.

What is sought is to show the omentum of symbiosis or hybridization that has occurred in man and machine, explained Pacheco. "The ingenuity of man has led to create machines, but at the same time we are dependent on them ...", he said.

It is so in the comparsa three machines will be shown: the machine swallows coins, swallows time and the crushing machine or crusher.

The idea is to reflect on the lack of time that is currently lived and not know "what we want to produce or where to get ...", explained the teacher.

In addition, each performance will have its own scenic and choreographic space.

Revelation

A world in destruction, violent, with scarce resources with characters and leaders that cut resources is the proposal of the UDA, which has been called "Ecuador Post Apocalyptic."

The comparsa is based on the aesthetics of the film "Mad Max" that precisely addresses the issue, detailed Manuela Cordero, coordinator of Linking by the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Art of the (UDA).

The university will participate with four vehicles, as well as other large-scale elements, such as a dinosaur, that will be mobilized by the students.

Cordero announced that a vehicle is being prepared that will represent the concentration of water in the hands of a "leader" who dominates the natural resource, another vehicle with women who want to break free from the yoke, warriors who defend the system, but at the same time want to free themselves , among other characters.

Participants

César Banegas, president of the Union of Journalists of Azuay (UPA), a union that organizes the event with the Amistad Club, explained that registrations were opened yesterday at 18:00 p.m. at the offices of the Amistad Club, which is located on Presidente streets. Córdova 9-80 and Father Aguirre, see you tomorrow.

It is expected to have 25 participant comparsas, as was the previous year, for the categories: institutional, comparsa, infantil and individual.

Banegas recalled that for the qualification of the comparsas the jury will take into account the message, the quality of the choreography and artistic part in the understanding of the elements that accompany the actors.
