University of Azuay wins Golden Mask

Metal dinosaurs, trucks that transported warriors and "weapons", were part of "Ecuador PostApocalíptico", the comparsa of the Universidad del Azuay (UDA) that won the first place in the Institutional category of the 2019 Masquerade Contest.

The event took place the previous Sunday in Huayna Cápac avenue.

The UDA also won the Golden Mask, which is the highest award of the contest.

The work of the university showed a world in destruction, violent, with scarce resources and with characters as leaders that cut resources. The comparsa was based on the aesthetics of the Mad Max movie.

The second place in the institutional category was for the Jardín Azuay Savings and Credit Cooperative with its theme "Playing and acoliting, we cooperate". The theme of the institution was allusive to old games such as: enchanted pots, the stick taught, bingo and others.

While the third place went to the University of Cuenca that presented "The Insatiable Machines".

In the comparsas category, the first place was for the San Francisco neighborhood with "Mi proyecto no marcha bien", a parody of the march of the civilian traffic agents of the EMOV EP who paraded in November of the 2018.

The Flores Family won the second prize in this category with its theme "The Planet of Flowers" which alluded to the movie "Planet of the Apes", but with a touch of humor and dance that caused the laughter of the audience.

The third place went to the Vanegas Family with "The Decapitation of the Innocent Saints and the Decapitation of the Criminal Sanctuaries".

In the Infant category, which has only one winner, the prize went to the Luis Cordero Initial Educational Center for its theme "The happiness circus".

In the Individual category, the first place went to Víctor Hugo Espinoza with his interpretation of "Un Yoga-Dicto"; and, the second for Carlos Chuisaca for "El país del Qué Chu ...".
