A good place

A good place

I remember that, in the year 2017, when the current rector of the University of Azuay took office, after a powerful speech that outlined the way forward, where ideas of humanism, diversity, campus, service, recovering the seat, academia , science, technology, substantive reason, ethics, transformation and utopia; The main reflection was: to make this academic community a good place.

The good place meant harmony with the human being and his environment; with their aspirations, ideals, vision of the future, spirit and beliefs; with the emotions and desires of him. It was the look towards a consolidated work that integrally evolves the progress of the University, of its name and prestige itself; but, above all, in which many people -teachers, administrators, students and the whole society- could fully realize themselves. Yes. That place that had a challenge: to cultivate qualities, hopes and utopias.

The University of Azuay was radically transformed. They all recognize it. It took an impulse so similar to that of its constitution time and that of its institutional consolidation. In fact, it is a source of pride to look at his academic ability and presence that went from the locality to the strength of a national benchmark. Its campuses, not only that they were renovated or built new and beautiful, but that they have precisely given dignity to the people who are in its gardens, libraries, auditoriums, classrooms and laboratories, who work and study in it, who meet to grow, take on and confront the world. That is, to live.

That is the current university community that has received recognition as the first University in the country, which respects and walks hand in hand with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. That is admired by locals and strangers every time they visit it and look at its deep processes that are planned, rigorously decided and developed with complete passion. Thus, its current rector Francisco Salgado, hand in hand with so many wills delivered with ethics and commitment, made: a good place. (OR)
