UDA returns to triumph with double prize in Mascaradas

The university won the first place and the 2019 Gold Mask. The San Francisco neighborhood, the initial education center Luis Cordero, and the citizen Víctor Hugo Espinoza also triumphed.

Creativity, mischief, power and above all, the social message, were four of the factors taken into account by the jury to choose the winners of the 2019 masquerades.

For the University of Azuay, UDA, the award was double. In addition to the first place in the Institutional category, this year he won the Golden Mask, the maximum award for the best representation.

That "union makes strength", the University of Azuay took it very seriously. In this edition, the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art decided to join forces with the Faculty of Science and Technology, in order to stage the comparsa 'Ecuador Post-Apocalyptic', a representation inspired by the film Mad Max of the Australian George Miller.

The message of the 500 students and teachers participating was clear: "take care of our natural resources for tomorrow". From there, huge structures appeared along Huayna Cápac avenue in the middle of a stage full of action and reflection.

The 'Old Madman', owner of the water, 'Mad Nuel' or Mad Max; and the 'Cabreada', the woman who protected the other women of the villain, were the most significant characters.

The second place was for the Jardín Azuayo cooperative with the theme 'Playing and acoliting cooperate' and the third for the University of Cuenca with the proposal 'The Insatiable Machines', institution that for the first time after four consecutive years of success, failed reach the first place this time.

In the Comparsa category, the kings of humor were the representatives of the San Francisco neighborhood, who obtained the first place with their work called 'My project does not work well'. As its name indicates, its mockery was directed to the traffic agents of the EMOV, who did not achieve coordination in their presentation during the Independence festivities last November.

The Flores family and the Vanegas family won the second and third prize, with 'The Planet of Flowers' and 'The Decapitation of Holy Offenders'. This last representation, deserved varied critics of the presents, because several personages of films of terror took in their hands the recreated heads and beheaded of different Ecuadorian politicians.

In the Children's category, the only and first prize was won by the Luis Cordero initial education center, with 'The Circus of Happiness', an initiative with which children filled the emblematic space of Mascaradas with color.

Finally, 'A yoga-dicto' represented by Víctor Hugo Espinoza, obtained the first place in the Individual category.

The award ceremony will be held in the next few days at the South Amistad Club headquarters. The date and time will be announced in the media and social networks.
