U. de Cuenca wins Mascaradas

The University of Cuenca with its theme "Circus, Charades and Chendos" won the first place in the institutional category in the Mascaradas 2017 contest, which was held last Friday and walked Huayna Cápac Avenue from La República street to the bridge of The Vergel.

This center of higher education was also awarded the highest recognition given by this contest organized by Amistad Club and the Union of Journalists of Azuay (UPA), the Golden Mask.

The second place in this category was for the University of Azuay (UDA) with the theme "Never stop dreaming", which was a representation of several children's stories, while the third place was obtained by the Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS) with "Sociedad Zombie", a theme that highlighted the obsessive use of electronic devices and social networks.
In the category comparsas the first place was won by the Benemérito Fire Department of Cuenca with the troupe "I take care of my forest ... but who burns it", the same one that made reference to the recent forest fires that the city endured.

In second place was the comparsa "Folklore, salsa, roots to the world", and the third place was for the theme "Prohibido Olvidarlos" presented by the Flores Padilla family.
In the individual category, they highlighted Santiago Illescas with the parody "Ruliman la Historia Verdadera" in allusion to the character Soliman, created by the Prefecture of Azuay, and Rene Martinez with "El Reciclador", in the first and second place respectively.

While in the children's category, the winners were the Ciudad de Cuenca Initial Education Center with the theme of Pequeños Dinos and the Buena Esperanza Educational Unit with "Por eso te quiero Cuenca".

The University of Cuenca obtains 4.000 award dollars, the UDA 3.000 dollars, the UPS 2.000 dollars, the 1.500 Fire Department dollars, the second place in this category receives 1.000 dollars and the Flores Padilla 500 family doalres.

While the prizes for the individual and children's category is 300 dollars for first place and 200 dollars for second place.
