They reward the Old and Masked Years

With a folkloric dance by the Vanegas Family, laughter and applause, on the night of the previous Wednesday, the 2018 Old Years Contest and the 2019 Masquerade Contest were organized, organized by the Amistad Club and the Union of Journalists of Azuay ( UPA).
In the case of the Old Years, the economic prizes were given to the El Vado neighborhood, which obtained the third place; the Central district that was in second place; and, the first place was for El Vergel.
Then the winners of the masquerade contest that also received economic prizes were awarded. The third place was for the University of Cuenca with its theme "The insatiable machines"; the second place went to the Jardín Azuayo Savings and Credit Cooperative with its theme "Playing and acoliting, we cooperate"; and, the first place was for the University of Azuay (UDA) for his comparsa "Post-apocalyptic Ecuador", which also obtained the Golden Mask.
Ceśar Vanegas, representative of the UPA, recalled that the objective of the competitions is to maintain the traditions, so he encouraged the participants and authorities to continue supporting the initiative.
In addition, he invited to participate in the first competition of comparsas "To the voice of the carnival, all Basin rises", that will be carried out on Saturday 2 of March.
