Vaccine plan enters a new transition phase

With the application of second doses and vaccines for people with disabilities, the transition phase of the new Government's plan to immunize 9 million people in 100 days began yesterday in Cuenca.

This phase will run until May 30, reported the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), the day until which it is planned to vaccinate 150.000 people nationwide, and about 12.500 people in Cuenca.

The MSP communicated that the elderly and their personal caregivers, health personnel who have not yet been vaccinated, doctors and volunteers who provide their support to the immunization plan, pensioners and retirees of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) will be a priority.

The vaccines will be made through mobile brigades for those people who due to their health situation cannot go to the headquarters of the plan, hospitals and clinics, IESS care centers and the points determined by the Zonal Coordination for inoculation.

The coliseums of the University of Cuenca, Jefferson Pérez, of the Manuela Garaicoa school, of the Bicentennial campus of the University of Azuay behind the Borja school, and the polyphor of the Catholic University of Cuenca will receive the beneficiaries of the plan in Azuay.

Yesterday, at the beginning of this transition, delays in the arrival of doses were reported. More than an hour had to wait, for example, those who went to the coliseum of the University of Cuenca, to receive their dose.

Health personnel present in the vaccination centers explained that the suspension of the vaccination on Monday and Tuesday for the count of the number of doses, caused the demand to increase, which generated some annoyances that were overcome yesterday afternoon.

The new governor of Azuay, Esteban Bernal, reported that the necessary steps are being taken so that there are no delays in the vaccination processes, and affirmed that the goal of the authorities is to vaccinate 90% of Cuencans in the first 100 days of Government.

Orders

On the other hand, unions and social groups join the requests to be taken into account for the new government vaccination plan. The Azuay Bakery Association has asked to count on the dose application list, as well as communicators' unions and foundations that work with patients with catastrophic diseases.

Alexis Ponce, leader of several organizations that work with caregivers of people with disabilities and catastrophic illnesses, asked that this group be taken into account for the process, in order to protect their families.

The Zonal Coordination 6 of Health asked the unions, foundations and associations, to send their requests through official letter and with a list of people to be vaccinated, so that the requests can be reviewed in detail and approved in the cases that warrant it. (JMM) (I)
