Journalists report how Pulitzer won

Andrés Jaramillo, policy editor of El Comercio newspaper, one of the winners of the Pulitzer Prize for his journalistic investigation of the "Panama Papers" case, which uncovered one of the largest cases of corruption in the continent by tax havens, was one of the speakers in the day of yesterday of the communication meeting Tinta Tinto, organized by the students of Social Communication of the University of Azuay (UDA).

He recalled that the "Panama Papers" could be known thanks to the filtering of documents from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, and distributed to media in some countries, Arturo Torres, editor of El Comercio was invited to know these documents. Then, in those related to Ecuador, public officials were investigated - because they handle State resources - and found, among other cases, former prosecutor Galo Chiriboga and Álex Bravo, linked in this case. They also found private persons, whose past was checked against the records of the Juridical Function. The investigation is not concluded.

The Tinta Tinto meeting arises in the year 2003 and is one of the spaces that allows to speak about the freedom of expression, being very significant that it has reached the edition number 14. The conferences with local, national and international panelists will continue today at the UDA campus.
