Foreign trade opportunities

Foreign trade opportunities

The government must focus on supporting the productive matrix, promoting exports, reducing tariffs and taxes so that there is motivation and greater foreign direct investment and, thus, Ecuadorian trade grows.

It is the exhortation of Fernanda Baquero, professor of the UDLA and director of Business and Foreign Trade of the consultancy SC3 Ecuador. He said it yesterday during the "First International Trade and Business Summit" held at the University of Azuay (UDA).

The meeting is organized by the International Trade and Business Club of the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the UDA.

Baquero warns that, although it is true, Ecuador has a negative trade balance, that is, we import more than it exports, it believes that the basis of everything is to know that imports should focus on what the sectors require.

And remember that, unfortunately, our country is not a manufacturer of a large number of products that have to be imported, even for the manufacture of subsequent items of export matters; Then consider that imports are vital.

But he points out that one must "fight" so that exports are more dynamic and thus have a positive trade balance.

In his opinion, this government has had a surge in comparison to what it had a few years ago in Foreign Trade, more business opportunities have been generated, more attempts are being made to open to international markets, they have tried to eliminate certain barriers that existed before.

Fernando Valdez, an academic from the Valparaíso University, in Chile, from the International Business School, a master's degree in International Strategies and in Management Administration, comments that within the integration processes it is very important that countries can work together.
He narrated the experience of Chile and how this country has managed during these almost 30 years to work in the integration process, despite being small.

But, is it easy to strengthen exports when a country does not seem to be a good commercial destination due to a series of safeguards and taxes, as it would be happening to Ecuador?

It is very difficult, says Valdez, but as he says it is required at will, all countries have ways of being able to protect themselves and many of these integration processes and these tools are given through trade agreements, which allow both countries to protect , in effect, the agreed commitments will be fulfilled, for that in the case of not doing so there are the international organizations that they control.
