Nicolás León Rodas Ecuadorian export talent

Nicolás León Rodas is a graphic designer, photographer and post producer. His hobby for photography began at the age of 17, but since he was little he had a taste for cameras and video recorders.

He studied graphic design at the University of Azuay and merged his profession with photography. Later he traveled to Buenos Aires-Argentina and participated in competitions with Guillermo Losio, learning about lighting.

Nicolás set up his studio and practice led him to perfect both design and photography. "I also learned post production and retouching," he said.

His talent became known inside and outside the country, working with different international brands, including his work was reflected in recognized world media.

As a designer, he highlights the creation of logos, work on branding, packaging designs. ¨Always oriented towards audiovisual production¨, he said.

Instead, as a photographer he collaborated with Indurama, Trópico Seco, Vatex, Atenas Gig, Guillermo Vásquez Jewelry, Annoa Cosmética, Deportivo Cuenca, Bermeo Hermanos, Lucía Palacios, to name a few.

As far as post production is concerned, he collaborated remotely with Saks Fifth Avenue, Sedal, Material Kitchen, Pattern Brands, Open Spaces, Gir (Get it right) Letterfolk, Lola, Nice Laundry, Fable, Equal Parts, Cambridge Flatware, Touchland and Hydrohair.

His work has been reflected in fashion editorials, such as the national media magazine Hogar, Runway portfolio, Designer Book and international media such as L'Officiel Singapore, Feroce Magazine, Meow Magazine Mexico, Elegant Magazine from Canada, Kaltblut Magazine from Germany, Elements Magazine, among others.

Product photography

Part of his career is linked to product photography and in 2019 he contributed remotely to a New York production company called Cartel & Co. ¨With the production company I worked on two campaigns for the launch of their products and the work with which I contributed was retouching¨, he said.

In the country there are few retouchers due to the market, however, post production learned by retouching their own fashion, beauty (fashion portraits), and product photographs.

Nicolás León stands out in Cuenca and Ecuador for fashion and product photography. However, in the last two years and even during the pandemic, he collaborated with clients from other countries, including representatives from countries in South Africa, Chile, Argentina and the United States.

With more than ten years of experience, Nicolás León believes that a retoucher and post producer must know about photography, lighting or colors. ¨They complement each other and in my particular case, I carry out both activities, that's why I say they are my two passions. Studying design gave me the basics in composition or use of colors¨, he referred.

His talent has led him to be a benchmark in the country and the knowledge to export his talent. (JRU) (I)
