The UDA stands out in the 3x3 Pan American Basketball Championship
Among 13 women's teams, the University of Azuay (UDA) finished among the top four in the FISU America 3x3 or Pan American University Basketball 3x3 Championship held in Brasilia.
In a fairly even duel, the Cuenca team lost 14-13 to the Brazilian Paulista University (UNIP), the bronze medalist.
The title went to Canada's Carleton University after defeating the University of Chile 14-21 in the final.
The organization confirmed that the Americans, "with a solid and effective game, were crowned continental champions." They also secured their spot in the FISU 3x3 University World Cup.
Campaign at the Pan American Basketball Championship
Anahí Astudillo, Valentina Guillén, Sthefany Narváez, Nathalia Vicuña, and coach Belén Carpio represented the UDA at the Pan American Basketball Championship.
In Group D, the University of Azuay defeated the Brazilian University of Fortaleza 8-6 and the National University of Costa Rica 15-12.
In the quarterfinals, the 'Pumas' (the nickname of the UDA) defeated the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico 19-7.
In the semifinals, they lost 21-7 to Carlerton University. In the bronze medal match, they made a hard comeuppance of their defeat against the São Paulo team.
Recognition in the UDA
The main UDA authorities paid tribute to the quintet that participated in the FISU America 2025 3x3 Basketball Championship.
Rector Francisco Salgado praised the team's effort, dedication, and level of excellence, "positioning the University at the top of the world."
