the UDA helps recover the train rails

The University of Azuay (UDA) organized a walk in support of the project to recover the old train rails, which seeks to turn them into a bicycle lane to connect the provinces of Azuay and Cañar.

In April, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) delivered the studies for the construction of this work called Cicloruta Cuenca Azogues Biblián and Pedestrian Paths, on the Old Railway Line.

The Provincial Government of Azuay will manage the resources to carry out this intervention, whose objective is to recover the corridor that linked Gapal (Cuenca) with Biblián (Cañar).

According to Francisco Salgado, rector of the UDA, the recovery of this physical space coincides with a principle that this university institution wants to promote, so that citizens reduce the use of the vehicle.

Travel:

The walk started at 08:00 from the central campus of the UDA to the Botanical Garden of Cuenca, then went to the old train station in the Gapal area. It finally ended up on the El Valle road.

¨ Civic projects require everyone's effort so that it actually becomes a reality. Our goal as a university is to support this project ... ¨, said Salgado.

This cycle route will have a total length of 38,51 km, of which 18.6, which is equivalent to 48,30%, are located in Cuenca; 1.6 that is 4,15% in Paute; 12,9 (33.5%) in Azogues and finally 5,41 (14,05%) in Biblián.

The project foresees the need to build three new bridges: one elevated, to cross Avenida 24 de Mayo at the ¨José Carrasco Arteaga¨ hospital of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS).
