Medical students in US trauma centers

Two students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Azuay are performing a rotation in Trauma Surgery, Emergencies and Critical Care at the Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital, VCU, a high complexity trauma center.

The rotation, which takes place from October to December, is carried out in conjunction with a simultaneous rotation with the 911 Medical Emergencies Service, in a reference center in the USA. called Richmond Ambulance Authority, RAA.
This initiative exists from a project with the Pan-American Trauma Society, which aims to generate exchanges between medical students and Latino doctors, in different trauma centers in the USA.

In this experience, students have the opportunity to know the model in which a trauma center is managed at the highest level, with advanced technology and procedures, from the receipt of the injured person to their final care.
On the other hand, this activity allows students to interact with other Medicine students, residents and mentors from different areas, creating connections for their professional future.
This is the fourth time that students from Universidad del Azuay participate in a rotation.
