The University Council of the University of Azuay (UDA), chaired by the rector Francisco Salgado, decided to declare as "El Gullan Scientific Station" the property of the university entity located in the community of La Paz, in the sub-basin of the León River , in the territory of the Nabón canton.

 

The station has an area of ​​140 hectares; The name of El Gullan is due to the abundant existence of the fruit called Gullán that belongs to the family of the Pasifloras. This place contains a great diversity of flora and fauna that includes several endemic species of frogs, bees, orchids, mosses and birds, particularities that make this space suitable for cross-sectional and longitudinal scientific studies, according to the arguments for the resolution.

 

Currently El Gullan, is the headquarters of 8 research projects of the School of Ecology and Management Biology, University of Azuay.

 

Projects under development include the measurement, observation, and analysis of factors such as pollination, the adaptation of species to the climate, and several longitudinal studies on the evolution of certain species over time.

 

In this way, El Gullan Scientific Station opens its doors to students, teachers and researchers, to apply their knowledge and research in projects that need this ecological and diverse environment.
