The female contribution to science

The female contribution to science

In social sciences, biomedicine and biology is where there are more scientists.

Science told by women in non-academic language. Research from the eye, intuition and feminine perspective was there, not as a gender space, but as a work of knowledge, results and new projects, because in science there are no absolute truths.

Projects of social, technical, medical, environmental sciences, proposed by women researchers, professors and students of the country participated in the open house "Science told by women" they let see not only their results but the orientation, diligence and logic in the application of the methodology.

The event, organized by the Ecuatorian Network of Women Scientists, (REMCI), Cuenca Node and the Universities of Cuenca, Azuay, Catholic and Salesian Polytechnic, made it possible to know that, in the country, the contribution rates of women to science they are not determined, and that because "doing science in Ecuador is a great challenge. Do it as a woman, an older one. "

Social and technical science

Although scientific areas such as the social and biological sciences and biomedicine host a greater number of researchers, this does not occur in civil engineering, electronics or mechanics.

Five years ago, the 1% of the students of automotive mechanics of the Salesian Polytechnic University were women, that is, of 1.000 students, 990 were men. Today, the reality is not very different, there are 30 future engineers in front of hundreds of men.

Doing mechanical science is not a matter of gender, but of vocation. Dressing a espadrco (overalls) or putting together a gokarf (karting vehicle) does not mean having black nails filled with carbon black. Jessy Tene, future engineer, maintains her aesthetics and knows how to assemble and disassemble an engine.

 Testimonials

Feminine, curious, researcher. Mercy Cuenca, a professor at the Catholic University, is like that and, as a veterinarian, she knows that sharpness, order and caution are characteristics of a scientific and research woman. Mercy points out that every research project must be validated by experts and experts, underestimating the female gender in science, it is an error.

Facing the scientific challenges of women is not easy. It is common to wait for the technician, not the technique. It is "normal" to believe that, in some board meetings, the woman is the secretary. Lowering women's capacity for observation, experimentation and vision for science has been and still is behavior in some disciplines.

In the flesh, Daysi Pacheco has felt the ability of certain male circles to question the scientific argument of women, their aspiration is struggles for credibility, ignore the work and women's point of view can alter the result.

The open house of sciences, held yesterday in the Court of Justice building, located 24 shelves and showed six environmental projects; 6 of health, psychology and veterinary: 5 of economy, 4 of systems; 2 of architecture and urbanism; 1 automotive engineering.
