The 8 of March was celebrated in the UDA

This March 8 2018, the University of Azuay held two events to commemorate International Women's Day: a reflection on 'micromachisms in society' and a discussion on 'the role of women in the University'.

In the morning, in the Multiple Use Room, the academic vice-rector, Martha Cobos, presented María del Carmen Calderón's lecture on micromachisms, recalling that both International Women's Day and gender work are not aimed only at women .

"It is so that we all have the same rights, so that there are equal opportunities," said Cobos.

Then, the lecturer gave a brief historical review of the progress made in the fight against discrimination, indicating that women have achieved achievements throughout all eras.

However, this optimism was followed by statistics in Ecuador that show that six of each 10 women have suffered violence in the country, one in four has suffered sexual violence and more than half psychological violence.
He also noted that four of each 10 women have suffered physical abuse and one in six has been the victim of patrimonial violence.
In the province of Azuay, Dr. Calderón specified, more than 68 percent of women have suffered some type of violence.

"By protecting women not only women win, but the whole society wins, because a happy woman contributes to the whole society," the speaker concluded.
In the afternoon, in the same Multiple Use Room, there was a discussion about 'the role of women in the University', with female administrative staff of the UDA that was defined in the invitation to the event as an "afternoon of friends".
There, workers from different faculties and dependencies of the University reflected on their work and how it is combined with their status as women. It was again Martha Cobos who inaugurated the event, inviting the other women of the meeting to share, not only their experiences, but also to relate their needs as women.

"We see, for example, that in the events of the University that take place at night, there are more men than women and not because of lack of interest, but because of the need to run to the house to feed the buses and put them to sleep, "said the Academic Vice-Rector.

Verónica Carvallo, Lawyer Secretary of the Faculty of Design, remembered for example how to study and then work in the UDA as a young mother.
"I got married and I was a very young mother, and making a career with children changes the perspective of things. I remember how I had to ask Dr. Claudio Malo once to get 20 minutes late to his classes to take care of my son and he understood and allowed me. "

For Carvallo, working at the UDA is fortunate because her children feel that the University is a second home and the university community - in her opinion - understands the situation of women.
For her, there are still areas in which progress can be made, such as improving the teachers' work days, and continuing to worry because men understand that the logic of women, their dynamics and the situations they live in are different and deserve to be contemplated.

To close the events of International Women's Day, the women's team of the German School visited the Asunción College for a meeting between the two girls combined.
