Fashion show "Weaving Identity" highlights Cuencan handicrafts

Items made by the skilled hands of Cuencan designers were part of the “Weaving Identity” fashion show, as a way to pay tribute to Cuencan culture and handicrafts. 

 
The event took place in the Portal Artesanal, as part of the commemoration of the first year of the declaration of Cuenca as "World City of Crafts". 

 
Design students from the University of Azuay, as well as renowned designers from the city, brought their collections to the catwalk, in which articles in toquilla straw, leather, the traditional clothing of the Chola Cuencana and even the Ikat technique of the designer Diego Peña, used in men's clothing with fine details to enhance the garments. 

 
Likewise, the jewels of Juan Carlos Freire were exhibited on the catwalk, to show the skill of the Cuencan artisans.
