The University of Azuay will not be able to smoke again

Yesterday they started classes at the University of Azuay (UDA), and the students learned that the authorities of the institution decided that no area could smoke.

In the previous cycle, teachers and students could do it outside the buildings, however, after a meeting of the University Council, a protocol of ethics was approved, which states that no person can smoke in courtyards, classrooms, gardens or other spaces related to the institution.

For the doctor Fabián Jaramillo, director of the Department of the UDA, the decision, which had been working since the previous year, is right because being an educational center "should be given the example."

"The control is on the campus, in the green areas, because the students and possibly the administrators began to leave the butts in the gardens," Jaramillo said.

After the decision, next week a campaign will be launched to raise awareness among students on the subject.

"At the University we look after the well-being of all students, even though someone smokes in an open space who are nearby receive that smoke, and it seriously affects those who suffer from lung diseases or allergies," said Martha Cobos, vice-chancellor of the UDA .
