Agreement to register Flora and Fauna in the Tabacay

The Municipal Public Company of Drinking Water, Sewerage and Environmental Sanitation of the Azogues Canton EMAPAL EP and the University of Azuay UDA, signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement for the elaboration of guides for the identification of flora and fauna for the intangible areas of conservation Pujioloma and Filomena - Molobog Chico that are owned by the EMAPAL EP and are in the Tabacay River Microbasin.

Martha Cobos, Rector in charge of the University of Azuay, stated through the Vice-Rectorate for Research, with the support of the School of Biology, of the UDA, the rapid identification guides for the flora and fauna of the intangible areas in the sectors of Pujioloma and Filomena- Molobog Chico.

Among the activities that they plan to carry out in the intangible zones, there are technical visits for the collection of information, photographic record of flora and fauna species, laboratory work for taxonomic identification and the cataloging of fauna specimens. With all this information, the edition and printing of the identification guides of the plant and animal species present in these surfaces that are Azogues conservation areas will be carried out.

In addition, the Rector announced that the guides will contain technical information on each species of flora, avifauna, mastofauna and herpetofauna, and will be designed for a quick reading in a format that allows its use and is easy to interpret.

For his part, the General Manager of the EMAPAL EP, Javier Ramírez, pointed out the importance of having this information regarding the biological richness of the intangible zones in the Tabacay River Microbasin, added that the identification guides will be a very important tool that will contribute to the better management of these properties of the EMAPAL EP.

To carry out the work, a lodging place will be arranged in the cabins that have been built, both in Pujioloma and in Molobog Chico, where the staff of the University of Azuay will be able to carry out their activities during the technical visits.
