Anticorruption Center of Excellence at the University of Azuay

During the past week, the presentation of a new front against corruption took place in Cuenca. At the University of Azuay, the Ecuadorian Center of Anticorruption Excellence (CEEA) was formed, promoted by several universities in Ecuador such as San Francisco de Quito, University of the Americas (UDLA), the Institute of High National Studies (IAEN), the University of the International SEK Hemispheres and the University of Azuay. It is an initiative that is the first of its kind in a continent that during the last decade has seen corruption in the highest political functions grow alarmingly.
It could well be said that corruption is for several countries in the region the most serious problem in recent years. Millions of dollars went down the sewers of corruption. Paradoxically, these events had a superlative level in countries governed by leaders of a self-appointed political left and were committed in the name of a supposed revolution that, instead of changing the unjust structures, served to build a clique of nouveau riche with public funds.
So far, numerous anti-corruption commissions have been created in Ecuador, but the results have been disappointing. The famous international commission was a failure. The national, dependent on the government, apparently does not have sufficient strength or autonomy. The inspection task of the Assembly is null. The fact that several high-level Ecuadorian universities decide to create an anti-corruption front is a new opportunity, but at the same time a high responsibility because the citizens will wait for results, even more so when many universities - previously so critical and over-politicized - curiously kept quiet during the government. that led to that corruption.
