Chair focuses on Citizen Education and Coexistence

The four universities of the city: Cuenca, Azuay, Catholic and Salesiana Polytechnic (UPS), signed, last Thursday and jointly, an agreement for cooperation in the Open Chair of Citizen Education and Culture of Coexistence. It is a support to a citizen observatory to improve citizen practices to make Cuenca a city to live better.

Juan Tobar, Vice Chancellor of the UPS, stressed the importance of social coexistence, here the universities can contribute with their teachers and students to implement projects of connection with the community, he said.

This has generated publications about this knowledge, based on a civic education and culture of coexistence.

Universities are fundamental in the task of instituting citizen participation, for which they must include in their agendas the dialogue of knowledge that belongs to all, in search of creating a culture of active and co-responsible cooperation, said Ana Cecilia Salazar, professor of the University of Cuenca and urged to cooperate with teaching resources, materials and academic endorsement to achieve better results.

In addition to the universities, the Mediation Center of the Chamber of Commerce and the collective "Ciudad para Vivir", of which Pablo Estrella Vintimilla is a member, cooperate in the initiative.
