Carlos Pérez Agustí with a book of literary criticism

A new book, this time of literary criticism, by Professor, writer and filmmaker Carlos Pérez Agustí was presented by the University of Azuay, promoted by literary collective "Casa Tomada". Here Pérez writes essays about Ecuadorian authors such as Eliécer Cárdenas, César Dávila, Efraín Jara, Jacinto Cordero, Rubén Astudillo and Spanish Americans such as Jorges, Rulfo, Vallejo and Roa Bastos.

The rector of the University of Azuay, Francisco Salgado, in the presentation of the book, highlighted its significance "important for the author's career, dedicated to the word." This publication contains, for the most part, precisely written articles for the launch of books by the commented authors.

Francisco Olmedo, a former member of the UDA, commented on the book by an “outstanding teacher” and now a member of the Casa Tomada group, said the author Eliécer Cárdenas.

Carlos Pérez Agustí, a Spanish professor graduated in “Romantic Philology” (Spanish Language and Literature), arrived here in 1966, with only 25 years of age, hired by the University of Cuenca after winning an opposition of merits because he had film studies , although he was younger than the other applicants.

Here he dedicated himself to the chair and the writing of texts for the teaching of the Spanish language and Literature, with the editorial LNS; He also wrote the text "Academic Reading and Writing", officially used by the UDA for more than 10 years.

Coming from Spain, during the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco, he says that, when he arrived in Ecuador, the first thing that surprised him was the atmosphere of freedom: he could read books and watch movies banned in his country.
