Pottery and ceramics, the stars at ARDIS

After the Crafts and Design Week, an event organized for five years by the Inter-American Center for Popular Crafts and Arts (CIDAP), dealt with the branches of jewelry and textile design in its different editions, this year will be the turn of pottery and ceramics.

To do this, CIDAP will once again work together with the University of Azuay, and both institutions will be joined by the House of Culture Núcleo del Azuay and the National Association of Ceramicists of Ecuador.

According to Gabriela Vázquez, director of CIDAP, this new edition of ARDIS will go through the study of ceramics and its involvement with people, both in its object and spiritual dimensions, through the participation of connoisseurs from Ecuador and abroad.

To share the knowledge focused on pottery and ceramics, once again the proposal will be the realization of conversations, "masterclass" and specialized workshops in which the artisans will have an approach with the guests of the event that will take place next April.

Genoveva Malo, academic vice-rector of the University of Azuay, explained that the spaces of the educational institution, as well as the participation of the students, will be ready for the academic axis that ARDIS has.

In addition to being an event for learning and sharing knowledge, the Week of Crafts and Design has also been a space for the commercialization of objects created by the country's artisans.

And, in this 2022 there will be no exceptions, since a sales space was planned in which artisans, designers, artists, architects, illustrators, groups, associations, or any person or organization whose production shows the fusion between crafts and design can participate. .

“This is a great opportunity for all pottery artisans, ceramic masters, designers, who are linked to the branch. This is a window to the world”, she said about ARDIS Cristina Urgilés, master ceramicist, who won the CIDAP Medal for Design and Innovation in 2016.
