50 years of the UDA
If I am something in this life, I owe it to two scenarios, home and education. This time I will talk about the last one with an adjective that hugs me: university student. I have traveled through several universities, first as a student and then as a teacher. Fact makes me creditor to think about it, first with gratitude that is inherent to the one that has received a formation in science and conscience. I went to the last promotion of the Language and Literature Specialty offered by the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Education Sciences, in the Rector's Office of Dr. Mario Jaramillo Paredes, when Dr. Marco Tello Espinosa was Dean, to whom this dignity was placed. in the last period annexed to the Pontifical and, his second period, as the first autonomous University. Of the last promotion we were just three students: María Peralta, Patricia Sánchez and myself, to which one or two previous years were added.
It was a time of splendor!
Some teachers have already left this world: Edgar León, Miguel Miranda, Walter Auquilla, Fr. Antonio Alonso, who, without being of the Specialty, collaborated in their specific branches of psychology, pedagogy and theology. Some are still in force as Carlitos Delgado and the most retired: Francisco Olmedo, Marco Tello, Felipe Aguilar, Sara Vanegas, Jorge Dávila, Carlos Rojas, Oswaldo Vásquez ...
How not to remind the UDA that it was gaining prestige every year and becoming the protagonist of the development of the city and the region, until when the totalitarianism that decimated all the universities in the country came along. From this center of studies arose ministers, legislators, governors, prefects and countless authorities of different rank. But, above all, experts of high scientific and human quality that today provides relevant services in public, private institutions or in free professional practice. Now what is expected of this University is the need for specialized training for new academic leaders, so that they can adequately face the current challenges of higher education. The reconstruction of the university community must be achieved on an inter-institutional level, so that it is strengthened in its united action. This interinstitutionality is necessary not only in its local dimension, but in the regional and national context.
Loor to the University of Azuay! That his office continues to be the integral formation of the student, as he has done to date. His philosophy must be of the "Alma Mater" that models and seals his people.
