30 years has the Music Festival

Between July 22 and September 10, an exhibition with the history of the event will be active.

On June 21, 1991, El Mercurio published in a brief note the realization, for the first time, of the Music Festival of the French Alliance of Cuenca. At that time, the event brought together 20 groups, among them: Basca and Tierra Adentro de Perú, it was sponsored by the Central Bank, the Provincial Directorate of Culture and the Casa de la Cultura Nucleo del Azuay.

Since that year, the Music Festival has been held annually. Even when the pandemic arrived in the country, the French Alliance carried it out through virtuality. In this 2021 the event was also organized in which it was believed that it was the 25th edition of the event.

However, three years ago an investigation led by Eliana Bojorque began. Through it, it was found that the Music Festival did not begin in 1996, as was recently believed, but in 1991, according to a note written in this newspaper three decades ago.

The research emerged as the objective of celebrating the journey of the event through visual historiography. The work that was curated by Cristina Carrasco, will be exhibited both in the gallery of the French Alliance and in the House of Service to the Society of the University of Azuay, an educational institution that supports the research.
