Webinar about app development

Webinar about app development

On June 29, the webinar called "Apps are in high demand" was held, organized by the University of Azuay in conjunction with the Department of Continuing Education, the Faculty of Administration Sciences and the School of Engineering in Sciences of the Computing.

The objective of the talk was to show the various elements, tools and advice around the elaboration or web development and various mobile digital applications.

Esteban Crespo, professor at the University of Azuay, presented a brief review about the trajectory and biography of Belén Abad, who is Director of Engineering at Airpals and Co-founder and General Director of the software development company “Almendra”.

Subsequently, Abad's intervention took place. First, he narrated about why he is passionate about his profession and that "he cannot imagine doing anything other than developing applications." He also emphasized the complexity and importance of the process of developing software in an appropriate way.

The speaker then described the steps to develop a mobile application. "The first is to ask if the project is worth transferring to a mobile application or just a web, because there are clients who simply request the creation of these spaces because they are in fashion.", Said Abad.

In addition, he said that it is always necessary to be clear about the objective of creating these software, because the company's budget for the development of the application is essential.

On the other hand, he highlighted the relevance of the design, which is the second step to generate an app. “It is a key piece of the application. For this reason, this work has to be done by an interface designer, not a graphic designer, ”said Abad.

Then, we move on to the mockup or the space where the interaction with the interface controls is tested. To finish this stage, the interface designer is in charge of detailing the aesthetic part, that is, “decorating” and “decorating” the elements of the application.

He then explained which are the ideal platforms for programming. These are divided into three branches. First, there is the "native programming language", this has a difficulty with the source code, because certain elements vary according to the operating systems.

Second, there are the “frameworks or hybrids”, in which a web page is adapted to a mobile application, maintaining the design and interaction between operating systems, but has the disadvantage of low performance.

Finally, there are the "native developments with multiplatform frameworks", these combine the best of the previous two. They have the same code base, but the diversity between platforms is maintained.

After this, he presented what is the basic infrastructure of a typical app. This is based on an interconnection between three parties: the client that uses the platform on a device, the server that sends the respective information to the client, and the database that is responsible for storing said information.

To conclude, Abad gave some advice for people who want to be mobile and web developers in the future, and emphasized that this is a job that represents a high level of difficulty, especially since people tend to seek very high standards due to to the applications that society is used to in everyday life.
