"Experiences and Memories" a compilation of editorials by Francisco Chérrez
On October 10, the University of Azuay together with Casa Editora carried out the presentation of the book “Experiences and Memories” by the author Francisco Chérrez Tamayo, a prominent doctor, writer and columnist.
The book is a compilation of 300 articles written as editorials for the El Mercurio newspaper of the city of Cuenca, over more than 25 years. The author, through his texts, addresses global social and political changes, expressing his feelings and concerns. The work seeks to transmit messages of harmony and common well-being.
According to the author, "Experiences and Memories" is a reflection on how our personal experiences shape our identity. The experiences, events that we experience, are sources of learning by storing information in our brain to face future situations. Memories, on the other hand, are images of the past that remain in our memory, providing us with emotional stability.
In the presentation, Genoveva Malo, academic vice-rector of the University and commentator on the work, mentioned that this book gives an account of this plot that time has woven. The everyday as inspiration and the profound as reflection are the great motivations of Francisco Cherrez who has been a columnist for almost three decades and has spoken to the city, given and shared his stories, his joys and concerns, his complaints and celebrations, always from an honest, sensitive, enlightened and respectful perspective.
Thus, between the experiences and memories of Francisco Cherrez, doctor, writer and humanist, we can find a plot that weaves the memory and culture of Cuenca between the years 1996 and 2023 and reminds us of the importance of writing in human life to preserve history and culture.
