Visit of the Vice President to the Bicentennial Campus

Visit of the Vice President to the Bicentennial Campus

The Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador, Alfredo Borrero, visited the Bicentennial Campus of the University of Azuay on June 9 and participated in the vaccination process. This was commented to the Campus by the Rector of the University of Azuay, Francisco Salgado, about the visit of the Vice President.

“The visit of the Vice President of the Republic allowed us to fulfill an objective that we had as a University, which was that our Vice President could visit the Bicentennial Campus.

On May 20, before the inauguration, we were in a meeting with the Vice President and there he learned, through the Mayor of the city, that the Campus was one of the most important vaccination centers in the city, by the functionality of the place, which has adequate ventilation.

In addition, this vaccination center is in charge of the University of Azuay, our Faculty of Medicine, with its Dean at the head, its Deputy Dean, its professors and the students of the career, as well as the students of the postgraduate programs in Family Medicine. and Emergencies and Disasters.

That is very important because we are one of the few universities in the country that is doing this. Many universities have provided facilities for vaccination, but we have also fully involved our community, serving those requested by the Ministry of Health.

Not only Medicine is involved, but also the Information Technology Directorate to guarantee connectivity and all implements ready, the Department of Communication and Publications contributing with the printing of certificates.

We are all involved because this is a national project, it is the most important objective we have at this time as a country; For this reason, the University of Azuay is contributing everything it has to get out of this pandemic situation.

Since April of last year, the University began with force to contribute with the best it had to alleviate this serious situation that the world is experiencing. We started with the delivery of implements for use in hospitals, in intensive care units.

We also made the booths portable so that they can go around the parishes and that the health personnel are protected to be able to take the samples, which was a trauma at the beginning for the health personnel who did not know if they were going to be infected in this process of take samples.

So, from the beginning we supported the Ministry of Health with practical things, now we are contributing with the vaccination plan.

After the invitation on May 20, the Vice President visited the city and as part of his visit he approached the Bicentennial Campus, congratulated us, said that what he had seen was an example for the country, he had time to talk with our doctors, our professors of the Faculty of Medicine and with the Dean whom he already knew.

Above all, he spoke with our students and that is a memory that our youth will always keep. That a doctor, who at that time was serving as Vice President of the Republic, visited them, spoke with them, and thanked them for a job that is so important to the country.

I believe that it is very important for the University because the second president of the country has verified, in person, the conditions that we have in the Bicentennial Campus and, above all, has highlighted the total commitment of our university community to contribute to the national health plan .

He said at one point that this is what all universities, all institutions should do: give their best so that this program turns out as we all hope.

Also, I think it is important to tell the community that the Vice President told me that the acquisitions of vaccines with pharmaceutical companies in the world are being completed.

That coincided with what the Minister said later that the population to be vaccinated will be expanded, starting with children 12 years and older and then, perhaps, those older than three.

We are very determined to contribute to the achievement of these goals, which are no longer for a government but for an entire country. "
