VIII Workshop of the Ibero-American Network of Territorial Observation

On October 21, the University of Azuay, together with the University of Cuenca and the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, launched the (RIDOT) and XIV National Symposium on Urban Development and Territorial Planning. 

The event took place at the University of Cuenca and was attended by authorities from the aforementioned institutions, authorities from the Prefecture of Azuay, the media and the general public. 

RIDOT is made up of institutions and research groups from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Ecuador. Its main objective is the analysis and diagnosis of territorial dynamics in the Ibero-American space. 

The National Symposium has become an academic and democratic forum of national rank for the discussion of urban-regional phenomena in the country and the processes of planning and management of urban development. 

The welcoming remarks were given by María Augusta Hermida, rector of the University of Cuenca, who pointed out that this event is a space for debate, knowledge and public policy that is essential for today's world. 

In turn, Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, addressed the audience, mentioning that this academic and democratic meeting is an important space for reflection by academics and inhabitants of territories, where the care of life becomes a fundamental issue. 

For her part, Alexandra Quintanilla, vice-prefect of Azuay, said that this meeting invites us to rethink territorial development and how, in the community, new and better practices can be proposed for future generations. 

Finally, Margarita Queiroz, representative of RIDOT, spoke about the program and its initiatives, emphasizing the importance of research and dialogue to contribute from the academic field to a significant change.
