Universidad del Azuay signs agreement with the Municipal Government of Cantón Biblián

Tuesday 5 March visited the University of Azuay the Mayor of the Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Biblián Canton, Guillermo Espinoza Sánchez, who met with the Rector, Francisco Salgado, to sign an agreement of mutual cooperation between the two institutions.

The objective of the agreement is to establish a strategic alliance that promotes actions for the benefit of both the Biblián community and the university community. "It is our priority to know the needs of our people and establish strategies that solve them," said the Rector of the UDA.

The schools of Graphic Design, Textile Design and Interior Design are part of the first project to be developed within the framework of this agreement, which includes a program of direct accompaniment of teachers and students, training craftsmen straw and alpaca straw, workshops with experts in the management of alpaca from Peru and the readjustment of the commercial premises and the collection center for artisans.

Juanita Berzoza, Director of Community Development of the Municipal Government of Biblián, explained that the direct beneficiaries will be toquilla straw artisans and alpaca artisans from all over the Canton. He also indicated that joint work with the Faculty of Science and Technology is foreseen for the execution of projects that promote agro-livestock production with dairy producers and cattle ranchers in the Canton.

At the end of the event, the mayor commented on the importance of universities in the development of society and said that this was "a historic moment" for the Canton of Biblián and its inhabitants.
