A journey through the history of the Music Festival

The University of Azuay and the French Alliance of Cuenca inaugurated on July 22 the exhibition "30 years: Visual Historiography of the Music Festival", after a research of several years led by Eliana Bojorque to celebrate the journey of this cultural event.

The opening ceremony was held at the House of Service to the Society of the UDA and included the intervention of the Rector, Francisco Salgado; Antoine Lissorgues, Director of the French Alliance of Cuenca, and Eliana Bojorque, leader of the research group.

“The Music Festival is a meeting that breaks down social barriers, the investigation arises from the importance of this cultural event that has exceeded three decades, as very few do. Thanks to the French Alliance for this contribution to the city ”, expressed Bojorque.

Subsequently, a video-documentary was screened to start the exhibition, this collected several fragments of video files extracted from the different editions of the Music Festival in Cuenca. Until recently it was believed that the event began in 1996, however, after this investigation it was determined that its origin dates back to 1991.

The visual exhibition includes photos, posters, files and other visual pieces that show the extensive journey that the event has traveled year after year. The Music Festival has established itself as a meeting place between musicians and spectators in different public spaces in Cuenca.

In addition to Bojorque, the research team is made up of Soledad Gutiérrez, Boris Banegas, Mario Brazzero, María Augusta Pesántez, Silvia Ortiz and Daniela Durán. The University of Azuay published the book that covers the entire route of the Music Festival, the product of this research work.

This historiographic exhibition, curated by Cristina Carrasco, is on display to the public both in the Paul Cézanne gallery of the French Alliance of Cuenca and in the House of Service to the Society of the University of Azuay.
