Charting the path towards a more ethical future: our rector, Francisco Salgado, visits the Vatican

Our rector, Francisco Salgado, participated in the "Organizing Hope" meeting in Rome on September 20 and 21. The event was about the responsibility of universities in training people who encourage hope for a future that tenderly cares for life, caresses Mother Earth and practices the ethics of care. These principles animate the University of Azuay and make its community flourish.

The Rector signed the "Rome Call for the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence." This call emphasizes the need to guide the development of AI not only from a technological perspective, but for the well-being of humanity and the environment. Recognizes the importance of safeguarding our common and shared home, as well as its inhabitants.

This document was delivered in an audience with Pope Francis, where he closely shared the aspirations of the Latin American rectors. In addition, it was announced that the Pope will publish a document in January 2024 that will delve into ethics in the changing times that humanity is experiencing.

These events reflect the firm commitment of the University of Azuay and its rector, Francisco Salgado, to a more hopeful and ethical future for all.
