Cross borders, the goal of Open University

Open University is a worldwide movement in which universities are involved that want to reach beyond the university campus through online education.

At the University of Azuay, the project director is Juan Lazo, who points out that "the objective of Open University is to make this knowledge become classes taught internationally in a massive way through a web portal."

This project began in the UDA in the 2007 year with the so-called "Department of blended education" and the creation of the virtual classroom; Over the years, the objectives have been expanded, one of them being to create undergraduate and post-graduate degrees online, so that the University does not remain in the classrooms.

The UDA has trained teachers to be able to use the online tools and make use of them to teach classes remotely.

As part of this initiative, university documents and academic journals have been placed on the web, which can be found free of charge.

The idea now is to extend this project from the fact that some subjects become blended and that other subjects are completely virtual.
