Remodeling of the university campus

At the end of May, the remodeling project of Block E1 and E2, the former La Asunción school and school, now corresponding to the central campus of the University of Azuay, began.

This project proposes to reuse the structures of the buildings that belonged to the school and college, in order to give them a new use and carry out a structural study to extend the useful life of the building and guarantee the safety of students and teaching staff. .

Engineer Pedro Samaniego, a member of the Infrastructure Commission, is one of those in charge of the remodeling project.

He tells us that, once the work is finished, the six-story building that belonged to the school will now be used for the Schools of Law and International Studies, while the other three-story building will correspond to laboratories for the Faculty of Science and Technology and research offices.

"The classrooms will be 100% remodeled, they will be more spacious, with better lighting and a more modern and current design," said Samaniego, in addition, he explains that stairs with ramps and two elevators will be implemented that will allow access to people with disability.

Samaniego said that one of the advantages that our University will have with this project is a wider capacity for students who will progressively return, complying with the established pilot plan.

"With this project the university is going to grow more than 25%," he commented.

Students will also enjoy the Plaza Universitaria, an open space where university events will take place.

The remodeling project is expected to be about 95% completed by September of this year, with a budget of 1 dollars with which the remodeling will be carried out.
