Technological training projects with the Mayor's Office of Cuenca

Artisans are a fundamental part of Cuenca's culture. A tradition that must be preserved. An effort that must be recognized daily.

That is why the new generations of artisans should have the opportunity to access a higher education. For this, the University of Azuay is working together with its Technological Training Department in technologies related to the artisan sector.

With this objective, the University of Azuay seeks the support of public policies for the proper development of this technological career.

The University will not only open the doors to these artisans but will also accompany them throughout their apprenticeship so that they continue in the University until they graduate and obtain a key degree for their future.

On the morning of Wednesday June 16, Rector Francisco Salgado met with the Mayor of Cuenca, the Municipal Director of Culture, the Manager of the Municipal Economic Development Company and the Executive Director of CIDAP to coordinate this technological training project.

Mayor Pedro Palacios stressed that "it is very important to know the stories behind each of these artisans, to preserve their creativity and traditions even for the next generations of artisans."

The meeting also spoke of the importance and symbiosis that exists between crafts and tourism, which go hand in hand for a correct development of the city's economy, necessary more than ever in these times of pandemic.
